High Calcium Hardness Levels Will Destroy Pools

  • On April 22, 2019

Removing Calcium Hardness from Swimming Pools

If you live in the San Diego area or other areas in the Southwestern U.S., dealing with high levels of calcium in your fill water can literally destroy your swimming pool and equipment. Calcium is naked to the human eye when you look at the water but you can definitely see it along the water tile line, on decorative water fixtures, spillways and on your filtration equipment. Unfortunately, when building a swimming pool or buying a house that has a pool this is the one subject that isn’t talked about very much but it should be. If you live in an area where there are high levels of calcium in the water, unless you change out your water every two years you will begin to run into issues of controlling the water chemistry in the pool and it will start scaling in areas that suddenly turn your backyard paradise into a nightmare.

When this happens you might have to spend a lot of money on removing the calcium from the tile, spillways, and decorative water features, but it is imperative that you change out the water as well. If you don’t change out the water it will just come back. You can either drain and refill with moderately hard water from the tap or you can recycle your swimming pool water with our Reverse Osmosis Mobile Filtration System “Puripool” Process. The benefits of recycling your swimming pool water are not only saving our precious water but also providing the lowest level of calcium in the water that is safe. Not to mention… if you recycle the water every two years it will make some of the above issues harder to achieve.

We recently we recycled a 25,000-gallon pool with the following results:

Calcium Hardness – 1100 ppm

Total Dissolved Solids – 5304 ppm

CYA – 100 ppm

After recycling this swimming pool for 16 hours and saving 85% of the water we achieved the following results…..

Calcium Hardness – 180 ppm

Total Dissolved Solids – 1200 ppm

CYA – 20 ppm

So remember when it’s time to change the water in your swimming pool, don’t drain when you can Puripool!! If you should have any questions about our service or would like to book an appointment to swim in the best water quality this summer please contact us today!
